MAR: Ibid, 11:132. Wife is called "widdow Sarah Beetle." She was said to be Sarah (Lockwood) Beetle, the widow of Christopher Beetle of Kittery, Maine in Sybil Noyes, Charles Thornton Libby, and Walter Goodwin Davis, GENEALOGICAL DICTIONARY OF MAINE AND NEW HAMPSHIRE (Portland, ME, 1928-39; repr Baltimore, 1979), 86 (FHL #974 D2n). This identification is not fully proved but seems likely. Sarah Lockwood accused Christopher Beetle of being the father of her unborn child on 12 Oct 1686 (PROVINCE AND COURT RECORDS OF MAINE, 6 vols. [Portland, 1928-75], 3:242-43 [FHL #974.1 P2p]). It is probable that Christopher and Sarah married. Sarah may have been widowed by 1698. Although no death or probate rec has been found for Christopher Beetle, another Christopher Beetle, presumably his son, settled on Martha's Vineyard, not far from Barnstable, about 1724.
