Notes |
- BIRTH: Nathaniel B. Shurtleff and David Pulsifer, eds, RECORDS OF THE COLONY OF NEW PLYMOUTH, 12 vols. (Boston, 1855-61), 8:13-14 (FHL #974.4 N2n). Altough this rec suggests that Joseph's children were born in Sandwich, it is unlikely, as Joseph was in Eastham from 1 Jun 1647 when he was proposed to the court as lieutenant of the Eastham military company (Shurtleff, RECORDS OF THE COLONY OF NEW PLYMOUTH, 2:117). He seems to have resided there the rest of his life.
MAR: No mar rec found. On 4 July 1679, Jonathan Higgins of Eastham was charged with "fornication with his wifes sister after his wifes death" (Shurtleff, RECORDS OF NEW PLYMOUTH, 6:20). The only sister not married on that date was Hannah. Following this incident are the births of five children of Jonathan Higgins, the 1st born on 11 Feb 1680. Four of these have the same names as Hannah's siblings ("Eastham, Mass. Vital Records, "MAYFLOWER DESCENDANT, 6[1904]:15 [FHL #974.4 D25md]). For further information, see "Notes and Corrections," NEHGR, 123(1969):147 (FHL #974 B2ne).
