- BIRTH: John is identified in the will of his father, Robert Moone of Weymouth, Melcombe Regis, 1 Sep 1578, proved 9 Nov 1581, P.C.C., 38 Darcy (FHL #091961). John "of Maugerton" is called 3rd son of Robert in John Paul Rylands, ed, THE VISITATION OF THE COUNTY OF DORSET TAKEN IN THE YEAR 1623, Publications of the Harleian Society, Visitation Series, vol. 20 (London, 1885), 72 (FHL #942 B4h). John matriculated at St. Albans Hall, Oxford on 8 Jul 1586, aged 18, and was, therefore, born ca 1568 (Joseph Foster, ALUMNI OXONIENSES, 4 vols. [Oxford, 1891-92], 3:1002 [FHL #942.57/O1 J2ox]). Moriarty mistakenly states that John matriculated in 1581, age 16, and suggests he was born about 1565 (G. Andrews Moriarty, "Mohun (Additions and Corrections)," NEHGR, 82[1928]:65 [FHL #974 B2ne]).
