- BIRTH: No birth rec found. John is identified in the estate records of his mother, Anna Stanton of Stonington, New London District Probate Files, #5038 (FHL #1025050). John is also identified in a deed from the heirs of Thomas Stanton to Samuel Stanton, 12 Mar 1701/2, Stonington Deeds, 2:234 (FHL #005593). John's year of birth is calculated from age 72 on gravestone inscription, below. Mother's estate rec suggests probable birth order. Place of birth is deduced from father's residence in Hartford during this period.
MAR: No mar rec found. John's wife is called Hannah in James Savage, GENEALOGICAL DICTIONARY OF THE FIRST SETTLERS OF NEW ENGLAND, 4 vols. (Boston, 1860-62; repr Baltimore, 1965), 4:166 (FHL #974 D2s). She is called Hannah Thompson in William A. Stanton, A RECORD OF THOMAS STANTON OF CONNECTICUT (Albany, NY, 1891), 135 (FHL #928379 item 2). No documentation has been found.
