MAR #1: Date of mar is given in the diary of Thomas Minor of Stonington. See John A. Miner, ed, THE MINOR DIARIES, STONINGTON, CONNECTICUT, THOMAS 1653 TO 1684, MANASSEH 1696 TO 1720 (Ann Arbor, MI, 1976), 117 (FHL #1036221). Part 1, the diary of Thomas Minor, is a reprint of the 1899 edition. Name of wife is not stated in diary entry. She is called Hannah Mead in William A. Stanton, A RECORD OF THOMAS STANTON (Albany, NY, 1891), 421 (FHL #928379 item 2). The will of William Mead of Roxbury, Mass., 29 Oct 1683, proved 2 Nov 1683, calls Joseph Stanton his "son-in-law" (Suffolk Co. Probate, misc docket, (o.s.) 6:428 [FHL #584128]). No evidence has been found that Joseph's wife was named Hannah, but Joseph Stanton's dau Hannah is mentioned in the will of William Mead.

MAR #3: No mar rec found, but it is published that Joseph's 2nd wife was bur on 6 May 1681. Stonington 1st Congregational Church recs, 1:5, show that the wife of Joseph Stanton was admitted on 16 Mar 1683 (FHL #005614). Hence, the existence of a 3rd wife. DEATH: No death rec found. Joseph is called "of Westerly" in estate records of his mother, Anna Stanton of Stonington, notice to show cause, 16 Apr 1711, New London Probate Files, #5038 (FHL #1025050). He is found in several Westerly deeds, the last dated 13 May 1713 (Westerly Deeds, 2:138 [FHL #940222]). He died at Westerly in 1714, according to Stanton, RECORD OF THOMAS STANTON, 421-22.
