- BIRTH: No birth/chr rec found. John is identified in the will of his father, Richard Kimball of Ipswich, 5 Mar 1674/5, proved 28 Sep 1675 (THE PROBATE RECORDS OF ESSEX COUNTY 3 vols. [Salem, MA, 1916-20], 3:16-19 [FHL #974.45 P2p]). John's year of birth is calculated from age 1 on passenger list of the ship "Elizabeth," 30 Apr 1634 (Peter Wilson Coldham, THE COMPLETE BOOK OF EMIGRANTS, 1607-1660 [Baltimore, 1987], 114-15 [FHL #973 W2col]).
MAR: No mar rec found. A wife Mary was granted adm of his estate, below. Mary is the dau of Thomas Smith according to court documents cited in Leonard A. Kimball and Stephen Paschall Sharples, HISTORY OF THE KIMBALL FAMILY (Boston, 1897), 42-43 (FHL #929.273 K561m). These documents have not been found. A Thomas Smith and wife of Ipswich were warned out of the town of Bradford in Nov 1680 (RECORDS AND FILES OF THE QUARTERLY COURTS OF ESSEX COUNTY, 9 vols. [Salem, MA, 1911-75], 8:44-45 [FHL #974.45 P2e]).
EATH: "Index to Births, Marriages and Deaths, Town of Bradford" (transcript, n.d.), 131 (FHL #893122). "Shot by an Indian and his wife and 5 children...carried captive, they returned home ye 13th of June 1676." The published vital recs of Bradford incorrectly state that Thomas died on 3 May 1673.
