- BIRTH: No birth rec found. Helen is identified in Charles A. Towne, "Descendants of William and Joanna (Blessing) Towne" (unpublished ms, c1939-40), no. 1-8-5-2-6-1-1-5 (FHL #231886); and George B. Sedgley, GENEALOGY OF THE BURBANK FAMILY (Farmington, ME, 1928), 370 (FHL #929.273 B891s). Helen is enumerated with her husband Charles Smith in the Tyler Burbank household, 1850 U.S. census of Sharon, Vermont, p. 101, dwelling 180 (FHL #444929). She is listed as 18 yrs old, born in Vermont. Although Towne and Sedgley state that Helen was born in Claremont, NH, this seems unlikely. First, Helen stated in the 1850 census she was born in Vermont. Second, a deed from her father Tyler Burbank to Eliphalet Fales, dated 20 Mar 1832, shows that Tyler was living in Pomfret the year Helen was born (Pomfret Deeds, 8:312 [FHL #028670]). Furthermore, the 1830 and 1840 U.S. censuses show that Tyler Burbank was living in Pomfret.
MAR: No mar rec found. Helen is called the wife of Chester N. Smith by Sedgley, BURBANK GENEALOGY, 370. Husband is called Charles Chester Smith in Towne, "Descendants of William and Joanna (Blessing) Towne". The 1850 U.S. census of Sharon, above, calls him Charles Smith (FHL #444929). Charles was said to have died in 1900 in Sherbrooke, Quebec per Sedgely and Towne. Reg of Plymouth Trinity United Church of Sherbrooke, 2:68, show that Charles Frederick Smith died on 5 Apr 1900 (FHL #1398895).
