- BIRTH: No birth rec found. Birth date is from Charles A. Towne, "Descendants of William and Joanna (Blessing) Towne" (unpublished ms, c1939-40), no. 1-8-5-2-6-1-1-4 (FHL #231886). He was probably born in Pomfret, Vermont, where the family is recorded in the 1830 U.S. census, p. 18; and in the 1840 U.S. census, p. 410 (FHL #027442). These census recs include a male child of Lyman's age. Lyman is listed in the Tyler Burbank household, age 21, in the 1850 U.S. census of Sharon, Vermont, p.101, dwelling 180 (FHL #444929). Towne wrote that when a young man Lyman lived in Iowa and Gulfport, Mississippi, but he is found in Minnesota in 1870 (see below).
DEATH: No death rec found. Lyman is enumerated in the 1870 U.S. census of Fond Du Lac, St. Louis Co., Minnesota, p. 7, dwelling 18 (FHL #830430). He was listed as "supt. of bridges," age 42, born in Vermont. No wife is mentioned. Lyman was then living in a boarding house with railroad workers, laborers, and construction workers.
