- BIRTH: No birth rec found. John is called "eldest son" in the will of his father, John Foster of Salem, 16 Nov 1687-14 Mar 1687/8, Suffolk Co. Probate, #1625, (o.s.) 10:266-68 (FHL #584130). John deposed on 8 Mar 1704/5 that he was about 59 years old (Essex Co. Deeds, 16:200 [FHL #866022]). The age was probably overstated by a year or two.

MAR #2: Ibid. Wife is called Mary "Pummery" on mar rec. She was apparently the widow of John Pomeroy whose estate was adm in 1691 by widow Mary (Essex Co. Probate, [o.s.] 303:35 [FHL #860485]). John "Pomeree" and Mary Cowes were married in Salem, 22 Jul 1674 (VITAL RECORDS OF SALEM, 4:204).
