- CHR: John F. Cook, ed, "Parish Registers of Lavenham" (typescript, 1934), 163 (FHL #824046 item 2).
BUR: Ibid, 255.
NOTES: It is claimed in some sources that William came to New England, but this seems unlikely as his bur rec in Lavenham assures us that he is the son of William Hammont [sic]. See Frederick Stam Hammond, HISTORY AND GENEALOGIES OF THE HAMMOND FAMILIES IN AMERICA, 2 vols. (Oneida, NY, 1902-1904), 1:61 (FHL #982118 item 2), where it is claimed that William settled at Lynn, Mass. and died 1637. Also see WINTHROP PAPERS, 3:270-71, 276, 284-85, cited in Robert Charles Anderson, THE GREAT MIGRATION BEGINS, 3 vols. (Boston, 1995), 2:852 (FHL #974 W2a). Anderson believed that it was this William Hammond who was killed in the Pequot War in Jun 1636.
