- BIRTH: No birth/chr rec found. William is identified in the will of his father, John Hammond of Lavenham, 22 Dec 1550, proved 5 Jun 1551, P.C.C., 15 Bucke (FHL #091925). His position as coexecutor with John's wife and being the first child mentioned in the will suggest he is the eldest. Date and place of birth are approximations.
NOTE: William settled in Melford and had a wife Mary according to Frederick Stam Hammond, HISTORY AND GENEALOGIES OF THE HAMMOND FAMILIES IN AMERICA, 2 vols. (Oneida, NY, 1902-1904), 1:50 (FHL #982118 item 2). [Long] Melford par reg extracts indicate a William Hammond was bur on 27 Apr 1610 (Ibid, 1:19). However, the adm of William's estate, 6 Jun 1610, was granted to his widow Rose (Archdeaconry Court of Sudbury, Adm Act Book, 1605-1612, fo. 86 [FHL #097117]).
