- BIRTH: No birth/chr rec found. Samuel is identified in the will of his father, James Davis of Haverhill, 17 Mar 1675/6, proved 8 Apr 1679 (THE PROBATE RECORDS OF ESSEX COUNTY, 3 vols. [Salem, MA, 1916-20], 3:375-79 [FHL #974.45 P2p]). Samuel deposed on 26 Mar 1657 that he was 33 years old (RECORDS AND FILES OF THE QUARTERLY COURTS OF ESSEX COUNTY, 9 vols. [Salem, MA, 1911-75], 2:29 [FHL #974.45 P2e]). Since he is not mentioned in the will of his grandfather, John Davis of Acton Turville, Gloucs, dated Apr 1625, with the other children of James Davis, it is presumed that he was born after the will was made.
MAR: VITAL RECORDS OF HAVERHILL, 2 vols. (Topsfield, MA, 1910-11), 2:88 (FHL #974.45/H1 V29h).
DEATH: Ibid, 2:384. Although the death is recorded in Haverhill vital records, it is most probable that Samuel died in Amesbury. He is styled "of Amesbury" in his will and on the inv of his estate made on the day of his death. See the will of Samuel Davis of Amesbury, 7 Sep 1694, proved 29 Sep 1696, inv 10 Sep 1696, Essex Co. Probate, (o.s.) 305:196-98 (FHL #860486).
