- BIRTH: The existence of this unknown son of Peter Elwyn is suggested by several documents, which combined show that a branch of Peter's family settled in Heigham and North Walsham. The evidence is detailed in G. Andrews Moriarty, "The Elwyns of Norfolk," MISCELLANEA GENEALOGICA ET HERALDICA, ed A. W. Hughes Clarke, 5th series, 6(1926-28):20-32 (FHL #942 B2m). Moriarty suggests the connection between the Heigham and Wooddalling Elwyns "is proved by the reference on the one hand in the will of Peter's son, Rev. John Elwyn of St. Michael's Coslany [Norwich], in 1568, to Peter Barker, evidently a great nephew, and of Peter Elwyn of Thurning in his will in 1607 to Thomas Barker (the brother of Peter) as his 'kinsman,' and on the other hand by the reference in the will of John Elwyn of Heigham in 1598 to his 'cousin Mr. Peter Barker, citizen and Alderman of Norwich.' The will of Richard Elwyn of North Walsham in 1583 proves that William and John Elwyn of Heigham and he were brothers. "Hence, it appears that Peter had a son who died before his will was written in 1556. The will of Peter Elwyn of Wooddalling, 16 Jun 1556, proved 27 Sep 1557, mentions a grandson William Elwyn the younger, who is believed to be William of Heigham, the son of this unknown son of Peter(Consistory Court of Norwich, reg wills, 63:151 [FHL #094894]).
DEATH: He apparently died before 16 Jun 1556, the date of his father's will, above.
