Notes |
- BIRTH: No birth rec found. A letter from John Woodcock of Rehoboth to the governor and council, 26 Apr 1676, asks for assistance and protection from the Indians who already "have slain two of my family." The letter is quoted in full in John Daggett, A SKETCH OF THE HISTORY OF ATTLEBOROUGH (Boston, 1894), 108 (FHL #974.485/A2 H2da). Nathaniel's death rec reports that he was "slain" in May 1676 (Rehoboth Vital Records [orig ms] 1:54 [FHL #562559]). The Plymouth Colony recs, below, place the death of Nathaniel on 28 Apr 1676, two days after John Woodcock's letter. Nevertheless, as there was only one Woodcock family in Rehoboth into whom Nathaniel could belong, it seems assured that Nathaniel was one of John's sons. The date of the letter or the death entry are apparently incorrect by two or more days. The death was probably recorded well after the event.
DEATH: Nathaniel B. Shurtleff and David Pulsifer, eds, RECORDS OF THE COLONY OF NEW PLYMOUTH, 12 vols. (Boston, 1855-61), 8:63 (FHL #974.4 N2n). Rehoboth Vital Records (orig ms), 1:54, state the death occurred in May 1676 (FHL #562559).
