- BIRTH: Peter's mar rec at Sidmouth, below, identifies him as a son of Richard Clapp of Sidbury. Peter's will, below, mentions his "[half]brother," Nicholas Clapp, who is identified in the will of widow Christian Clapp of Sidbury, 25 Jul 1608, proved 12 Aug 1608, Court of the Dean and Chapter of Exeter, abstracted in Olive M. Moger, "Transcript of Devonshire Wills," 44 vols. (typescript, n.d.), 9:1210 (FHL #916870). Date and place of birth are approximations. Peter is not mentioned in Christian's will. Wills of this court were destroyed in 1942.

NOTE: Richard Clapp of Sidbury was no doubt the father of other children. Two unnamed children of Richard are mentioned in the will of his father, William Clapp of Sidbury, 29 May 1555, proved 26 Jul 1555, Court of the Dean and Chapter of Exeter, abstracted in Moger, "Devonshire Wills," 9:1207. Richard is probably the father of a younger Richard Clapp who had children baptized at Sidmouth in the 1590s. He may also be the father of Mary Clapp and Prudence Clapp, mentioned without relationship in the will of his widow Christian Clapp, 25 Jul 1608, proved 12 Aug 1608, Court of the Dean and Chapter of Exeter, abstracted in Moger, "Devonshire Wills," 9:1210.
