- BIRTH: Nicholas is identified in the will of his mother, widow Christian Clapp of Sidbury, 25 Jul 1608, proved 12 Aug 1608, Court of the Dean and Chapter of Exeter, abstracted in Olive M. Moger, "Transcript of Devonshire Wills," 44 vols. (typescript, n.d.), 9:1210 (FHL #916870). He is called "brother" in the will of Peter Clapp of Sidbury, 26 Mar 1622, proved 10 Jan 1622/3, Court of the Dean and Chapter of Exeter, abstracted in Moger, "Devonshire Wills," 9:1214. Peter is a proved son of Richard Clapp of Sidbury. Date and place of birth are approximations.
