- BIRTH: Catherine is identified in the will of her mother, widow Johan Channon, 19 Nov 1616, proved 4 Dec 1618, Archdeaconry Court of Exeter, abstracted in Olive M. Moger, "Transcript of Devonshire Wills," 44 vols. (typescript, n.d.), 7:979-81 (FHL #Q942.35 S2m). She is also mentioned in the will of her father, Robert Channon of Sidmouth, n.d., proved, 30 Oct 1613, Archdeaconry Court of Exeter (Ibid, 7:982-83). Date and place of birth are approximations based on mar date and family chronology. Wills of this court were destroyed in 1942.
MAR #1: No mar rec found. Catherine had a son Tobias Jennings mentioned in the will of her father, above. Tobias, son of Richard Jennings, was baptized at Sidmouth, 25 Sep 1597. (W. I. Leeson, ed, "Sidmouth Parish Register" [transcript, 1941; Devon & Cornwall Record Society], unpaginated [#916935]). Hence, Catherine was married to Richard Jennings by 1597. Richard Jennings and Catherine Thomas were married at Sidmouth, 24 Nov 1588 (Ibid). If these are the parents of Tobias, Catherine was married previously to a Thomas.
