Notes |
- BIRTH: No birth rec found. Humphrey identified himself as a son of Humphrey Case in a petition to the town of Salem, 24 Mar 1711/2 (SalemTown Records, 1680-1728, p. 154, [FHL #877441]). He was said to be 16 yrs old in 1693 (Sybil Noyes, Charles Thornton Libby, and Walter Goodwin Davis, GENEALOGICAL DICTIONARY OF MAINE AND NEW HAMPSHIRE [Portland, ME, 1928-39; repr Baltimore, 1983], 131 [FHL #974 D2n]). The Case family apparently removed from Saco to Salem in 1675 with the outbreak of King Philip's War. Humphrey appears on a list of those admitted to Salem during the war (TOWN RECORDS OF SALEM, 3 vols. [Salem, MA, 1868-1934], 2:205 [FHL #974.45/S1 N2e]). Humphrey, Jr, was no doubt born in Salem.
MAR: VITAL RECORDS OF SALEM, 6 vols. (Salem, MA, 1916-25), 3:195 (FHL #974.45/S1 V2e). "At Topsfield."
DEATH: No death rec found. See the adm of estate of Humphrey Case of Salem, 17 Apr 1749, inv 27 Apr 1749, Essex Co. Probate, (o.s.) 328:481,528 (FHL #875134); dower set off to widow Rachel Case, 22 Jun 1749 (Ibid, 329:1-2 [FHL #875135]).
NOTE: It is published that Humphrey married (2) Mary Gloyd, 20 Nov 1707 (Noyes, GENEALOGICAL DICTIONARY, 31). The mar is recorded in VITAL RECORDS OF SALEM, 1:195. However, Humphrey's wife was Rachel when he died in 1749 (see adm of estate). Therefore, this mar must have belonged to Humphrey's father, Humphrey Case, Sr.
